"Exploring the Watercolor Portrait"

Instructor: Nick Runge

Feb. 11th, 10:00am-2:30pm

Workshop limited to 30 Students

The first 15 students to sign up will receive a limited edition print signed by the artist.

With a focus on figurative work, Los Angeles based artist Nick Runge uses watercolors to create life-like, yet simplified images. This workshop will highlight the process of building a portrait from the ground up and the specific approach taken to accomplish an interesting piece of art while painting from life, or a photo reference. 


I. First half - 2 hours - painting from a live model

Nick will begin by demonstrating how he paints a portrait from life while sharing his thoughts about interpreting the figure, and translating it to the painting. 

30 minute Lunch Break

Food provided by Kohii Cofee Co.

II. Second Half -  2 hours - painting from photo reference

To conclude the demo, Nick will construct a painting using photo reference, breaking down possible steps he uses to work with photography, while guests begin their own individual portraits.


A photo-reference. 

-watercolor paper (sheets or pads/sketchbooks) 

- watercolor brushes

-watercolor paints

Paper towels and individual containers for water will be provided.
